Todd Wurth, strategic media consultant at Madison Media Partners, is originally from Milton, Wis., and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in history. He’s remained in the Madison area for almost all of his post-grad life, currently residing in McFarland. Todd has been with the team since April, though his history with the company extends further – he worked in a variety of marketing and advertising roles for Capital Newspapers (now Madison Media Partners) between 2003 and 2010. We’re excited to have him back on the MMP team!
Beck Henreckson, Madison Media Partners digital marketing content producer, asked Todd some questions so you can better get to know him and his role. You can connect with Todd on LinkedIn.
What was the first job you ever held?
When I was 11 or 12, I worked at a food stand at a little league baseball park, slinging hot dogs and snow cones.
Describe your role and area of expertise at Madison Media Partners.
As a strategic media consultant, I work to create strategic plans that utilize all our available solutions to help clients meet their goals and needs. I think it’s the wide range of solutions we can offer that really sets Madison Media Partners apart from our competitors.
Share a particularly memorable or rewarding experience you’ve had working with a client.
The client that comes to mind is Kopke’s Greenhouse. I recently met with my contact there, and he told me how satisfied he was with the strategic plan of print and digital that we’ve put together for them. They’re seeing new faces, people who are bringing in coupons and saying they saw the ads, and that confirms that our strategies have been making a difference and contributing to their success for the year.
What’s a piece of marketing wisdom that’s been shared with you recently?
Not to be too cliché, but some valuable advice I’ve gotten is not to be afraid to try something new to meet your goals, or to step outside the box in order to make your business grow.
What’s your favorite spot for food or drink in Madison?
I like Off Broadway Drafthouse, for both food and drink. They always have a good menu with rotating specials, and they do a really good job on their craft beer rotations, as well as their seasonal mixed drinks. Actually, I was there the other week for a cupcake pairing, where they paired three different cupcakes with three different styles of beer; that was fantastic.
It’s a Saturday afternoon in the summer – where in Madison can we find you?
On a sunny afternoon, I’ll either be on the golf course or at Memorial Union Terrace – or maybe starting on the golf course and ending at the terrace.
What are some hobbies or interests of yours?
If I had to list my hobbies or interests, I’d say live music, craft beer and UW sports. The Dave Matthews Band is my favorite artist to see—I’ve seen them live 51 times—but I just love live music in general. And then Working Draft Beer Company is my favorite craft brewery in Madison, with Starkweather Brewing Company as a close second.
What’s your favorite thing about Madison?
You can never be bored in Madison. There’s always something going on, some place to visit, something to do, whether it’s in the city itself or a short drive away in Middleton or Waunakee. With all the options as far as the arts, drinking, eating, events with family or friends – there’s just no excuse to be bored.
